HIGH POINT — Magnussen Home Furnishings has received Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism certification from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Developed two months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, C-TPAT is a voluntary program focused on improving security standards. The program now includes 7,000 partners, accounting for 46% of U.S. imports, according to Customs statistics.
Magnussen began the certification process nearly two years ago, said Richard Magnussen, chairman and CEO. In the final stage, Customs specialists made final verification visits and an extensive review of all security processes at the company’s Riverside Distribution Center in Calif., and its Asian Distribution Center and factory in Vietnam.
“In the past, our biggest concern was how to move goods quickly and efficiently. Today, in this age of global terrorism, security has become an equally important priority for our company and our retail partners in order to move goods more quickly through customs,†said Magnussen.Â
The American Home Furnishings Alliance, which has been a supporter of the program, is conducting a seminar on C-TPAT at this week’s Finance Meeting at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
