The 23rd Street Armory Antiques Show, this April 17-19, 2016, has something very special to offer visitors. Not only will they have the opportunity to shop among 44 booths of quality and diverse antiques offerings, but visitors can also explore the Special Show Exhibit, “Honoring Our Heritage”, featuring the private military museum on the second floor of the armory as an added bonus!
The Museum of the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry contains a visual history of the Troop from its founding in 1774 to modern times. The artifacts on display include the historically significant Markoe Standard, which is the Troop’s first battle flag. You’ll also see fine oil paintings by such famous artists as Peale, Waugh and Eakins, plus magnificently conserved sabers and carbines, uniforms, military musical instruments and equestrian outfitting. Since this is a private museum and rarely open to the public, enjoy this unique opportunity to explore our antiques show plus the collection of our country’s oldest, uninterrupted service, Calvary unit and Philadelphia’s proud defenders!
If you have attended this antiques show in past years, you will remember the fabulous items to be discovered in each room like setting booth. The specialties are quite diverse, and include English and American furniture, folk art, Oriental works of art, signature purses, trade signs, stunning gems and jewelry, weathervanes, unusual iron, important ceramics and fine porcelain, scientific instruments, Native American, collector napkin rings, waterfowl decoys, yelloware, hitching posts, fireplace mantels, portrait miniatures, fine art…is your interest piqued yet?
