Wood waste has two different sides, if left and not managed properly, it will only become garbage. Conversely, if managed creatively it will bring many benefits.
Starting from seeing the neighboring wood waste, Shinta Intan Puspitasari a woman from Madiun Regency, East Java province in Indonesia, has idea to use wood waste to become furniture. The condition of wood waste is actually not attractive. Many nails are stuck and the color is dull.
The wood wastes which formerly used as pallet are modified into wall decorations, table chairs, cabinets, to bed cots and become high selling items. She argues that pine wood has good fiber so it makes the furniture look attractive.
To maintain the quality of its products, the wood waste furniture making have done by 2 carpenters. Whereas Shinta herself designed more creative and innovative products to attract consumers.
According to her, the selling value of her furniture is cheaper than other furniture uses local wood. Because, wood craft that uses teak, pine or mahogany, have expensive selling price and cannot goes to the middle to lower buyer segments.
