Applying a Modern Oriental Style Interior

The oriental interior design style has actually existed for thousands of years and still exists today. However, in its development, this style experienced transformation along with changing times. The oriental style which is currently widely used in homes and commercial buildings has been mixed with modern style. Of course, the fusion of these two styles creates a modern oriental style which is a favorite of many people.

Regardless of whether you believe it or not, feng shui is an important concept in oriental-style home interiors. In fact, many modern-style houses apply the concept of feng shui to their interior layout, especially oriental-style interiors. There are many feng shui principles that actually influence the aesthetics of a home’s interior, such as color selection, indoor air circulation, furniture placement that should not cover windows, and other principles. No need to apply everything, just apply some that are easy and fundamental.

Similar to other traditional interior styles in the Asian region, natural materials such as wood, stone, and bamboo are important elements in arranging interior space. In the oriental style concept, natural materials are believed to create a harmony of Yin and Yang in the house. These natural materials can be applied to home furniture, floors, ceilings, walls, room dividers, and home decorations.

In the concept of interior style, two types of color choices are needed to cover a space: neutral and dramatic. Neutral colors are usually applied as basic colors on the walls of a room, while dramatic colors are used to strengthen accents on certain sides of the room, which the portion is more minor. For neutral colors, you can use white, cream, or brown, while for dramatic colors you can use red, yellow, orange, green, and black.

Traditional style does not escape details and ornaments, as does the oriental style. The difference is that the modern oriental style does not require as many details as the traditional oriental style. The style’s ornamental details generally consist of curves that come from a combination of square and circle geometric shapes. Details like this can be applied to door openings, windows, furniture, ceilings, walls, etc.
