Dallas Furniture Chain Takes Aim At Championship Promotion

A Dallas-area retailer has introduced a new wrinkle to sports-themed promotions tied to the victories of hometown teams, a trend that has seen fans of the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Bears take home thousands of dollars worth of free furniture.

Stacy Furniture and Accessories, which operates three stores in the Dallas area, is distributing lottery-like scratch-off cards to customers who make furniture purchases of $1,500 or more for the remainder of January. If the Dallas Mavericks win the NBA Championship—after slipping from contention in the first round of the playoffs this year—customers will receive rebates in amounts revealed on the scratch-off cards. Possible prizes range from $200 to $5,000. Select customers could also win a 100 percent purchase rebate, up to $10,000, according to a news release by SCA Promotions, Dallas, which provides promotions insurance for retailers.

“We were looking for an exciting way to kick off the New Year and connect with the huge Maverick fan base,” said Dorian Stacy Sims, president of Stacy Furniture. “By offering the rebate vouchers, we give every customer who shops with us during the promotion period an extra reason to cheer on their favorite team — and if the Mavericks win the championship game, everyone is a winner.”

Founded in 1991, Stacy Furniture and Accessories operates furniture stores in Grapevine and Allen, Texas, and recently opened an outlet store in Flower Mound, Texas.

The promotion adds a new dimension to similar offers, including one by Jordan’s in the Boston area that awarded free furniture to thousands of purchasers when the Red Sox won the World Series. Recently, a Wisconsin-based retailer announced a similar promotion tied to a victory by the Green Bay Packers and the Super Bowl, and a Memphis Ashley HomeStore is promising free furniture to some customers in the event the University of Memphis Tigers win the NCAA Championship in March.
