Female designers to show off Garden Gala-fresh styles

GRANVILLE — There’s nothing like a visit to a fine Granville garden, bright green and blooming with color, to relish summer’s arrival.

Denison University First Lady Tina Knobel is opening her garden at Monomoy Place on West Broadway in Granville to the public Saturday for the first Garden Gala.

Conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will bring together women designers who will display, demonstrate and sell their work. Knobel is playing hostess to the event.
The event is free.

The Women’s Design Network of Granville formed during the winter for the development and promotion of women in artistic design ventures.

Designers represent many areas. Maureen Severson will bring her line of Bliss Bags, handcrafted handbags in distinctive fabrics. Debra Walker, of Wider View Garden Design, will bring creative landscape designs and ideas for gardens. Evelyn Frolking will create her signature Dutch-style, hand-tied bouquets of fresh flowers on site.

Laurie MacKenzie-Crane’s The Eccentric Bee will have her unusual pressed flowers note cards and plant collages.

Teena Jennings will bring examples of exquisitely hand-knit Minhka sweaters, with an opportunity to order a custom knit alpaca or cotton sweater.

Jan Packard, of Jan’s in Stitches, will create original designs and embroider them onto fabric and clothing.

Also participating are Treffry Caldwell with her unique Pluma Jewelry designs, Pat Warthen Design’s fine handmade porcelain, Janet Clayton’s painted furniture and Shirley Kay Sanders’ work in glass from Glory House Glass.

In the food line, Jo Ann Geiger will bring her Josie Posie Snaps, and Karen Hupp will bring confections from her gourmet candy line.

Diana Jones, of the Granville Carriage Co., will be on hand with information about carriage rides for weddings, celebrations and rides around the village.

“We’re diverse and excited to share our passions with the community,” said Frolking, one of the founding members of the group. “Granville is the perfect community to appreciate and support our work, and we want the community to know we’re here designing and working.”

Knobel will be present to greet visitors, share her garden and offer refreshments.
