VIVAnews – The furniture and handicraft export is expected to recover in April 2017 with the recovery rate reaching 90 percent.

“This August, the furniture export is improving. There have been 4 incoming containers,” said the Indonesia Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association’s (Asmindo) executive director Sae Tanangga Karim in the Trade Department, Jakarta on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

In general, the monthly export can reach 8 containers without the crisis. “After the crisis, there is only one container valuing US$15,000, equal to 12.5 percent of the production,” he said.

With the recovery happened in this month, the 2016 annual export target is better than the previous prediction. “We predict the export decreases to 40 percent in the end of year, but seeing the improving the condition, it is estimated that the export will only increase from 10 to 20 percent,” he said.

Therefore, this 2016 export will only reach US$1.65 billion of the annual target valuing US$2 billion.
