Mahogany is a type of hardwood that thrives in tropic areas. That’s right, this wood is only grown in areas that have tropical climate, especially in Southeast Asia, and one of is Indonesia. In Indonesia itself, this type of wood is very well known, especially in Java areas. Here, mahogany wood is known as a type of wood that has high economic value so that the trees has planted and cultivated in various places. In timber, this type of wood is often used for various needs. Because it grows in the tropics, mahogany wood has a distinctive character from other types of wood.

Mahogany tree itself can grow quickly, within 15 years period, the diameter of mahogany is very large and can be cut. In stark contrast to the growth period of teak or rosewood which takes longer to cut.
Each type of wood has its own characteristics, as well as mahogany wood that has special features that only exist in the wood itself. By distinguishing these characteristics we can distinguish them from other types of hardwood. Because there are several types of hard wood that have similarities between one wood and another wood, both in terms of color, texture, and fiber.
Mahogany wood is one type of wood that has good quality, but the level of resistance to pests and weather and durability still under the quality of teak wood. Mahogany wood is very vulnerable to termite pests so it is not suitable for outdoor furniture and it is strongly recommended to not put it in direct contact with the ground. And this is one of the weaknesses of mahogany wood.
In the wood industry itself, mahogany is known as a good and functional type of carpentry wood. This mahogany can be easily cut and shaped according to our wishes, so that mahogany is widely used as raw material in the manufacture of furniture products such as handicraft, various chairs, cabinets, carvings, tables, reals, beds, etc.
Now mahogany wood has often been used as raw material to replace teak, which is now in expensive price. This is done because there are many factors, in addition to decreasing amount of teak supply, the price of perforated mahogany wood is much cheaper than teak. And this is the main reason for most wood furniture industries to begin to overcome the problem of raw materials so that the continuity of the production process continues and runs smoothly, while also reducing production costs, because mahogany wood purchasing prices are much cheaper.
