In general, shingle roof is a roof made of wood chips. Usually, the shape of the pieces is square, some are tapered or rounded on one side. Shingle roofing materials are generally made of the hardwood type and weather-resistant.

Ironwood shingle roof
The type of ironwood shingle roof is probably the most commonly known. This type of wood for shingle roofs is often found in Kalimantan. Ironwood has strong and weather-resistant character. Therefore, apart being used as a shingle roof, this wood was often used as a railway sleeper or as a power and telephone pole.

Cedar shingle roof
Another alternative to ironwood shingles is cedar wood, especially western red cedar (Thuja plicata) and yellow cedar. This type of wood is commonly used as a wooden shingle roof abroad. Its durability is also similar to ironwood, used as an alternative to the slate stone roof that often used as traditional Western houses roof.

Bangkirai wood shingle roof
Bangkirai wood is also known as benuas wood or anggelam wood. This wood grows a lot in Kalimantan. Bangkirai wood is a good alternative to iron shingle roofing. Like ironwood, bangkirai is also known to be tough in dealing with weather changes, although in practice, its prestige is still inferior to ironwood.

Merbau wood shingle roof
Merbau wood can also used as shingles. Merbau is also strong like ironwood (hence also known as Mollucan ironwood, because in eastern Indonesia this wood is also known as ironwood). Like bengkirai, merbau can used as an alternative to ironwood shingles, which increasingly traded by the government.
