The Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2019 was officially opened at JIEXpo Convention Center and Theater, Kemayoran Jakarta. The biggest B2B (business to business) furniture and craft exhibition in Indonesia and the regional region was officially opened by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy of Production and Marketing of the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Victoria Simanungkalit, accompanied by the Chair General of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI), Soenoto, Dyandra Promosindo Management Representative, Daswar Marpaung, and Kompas Gramedia Management Representative, Rikard Bagun.
In his speech, Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia has large capital to become a major player in the furniture industry, especially through rattan. He encouraged HIMKI to expand the furniture industry centers outside Java.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry also encourages the improvement of human resources through the opening of furniture polytechnic in Kendal, Semarang, Central Java, which is part of the Central Java industrial area. Within two years, this industrial area has managed to attract 50 investors with an investment of US $ 500 million.
