Low Budget Earthquake Resistant House Design

The concept of a residence in modular house is indeed familiar abroad. In Indonesia, the concept has begun to be adapted to create comfortable, practical, healthy and cost-effective housing. The implementation of the modular home concept in Indonesia is known as the Healthy Simple Instant Home (RISHA). For those of you who are planning to buy or build a private house in the near future, here is the definition, design examples, advantages, and disadvantages of this earthquake-resistant house that can be useful for you.

House Concept and Character
Simple Healthy Instant House is a house construction concept from one of the research and development results of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. In simple terms, this concept can be interpreted as an instant concrete house built with a knock down technique, just like the principle of modular houses in other countries. The main purpose of realizing this unique housing concept is to facilitate the middle to lower economic class community to have private housing at more affordable cost.

Some of the characteristics that distinguish it from conventional landed houses:

  • The constituent material consists of two main components, concrete and bolts.
  • The reinforced concrete used is made of mixture of cement, gravel, sand, and several other constituent materials.
  • There are three forms of panels used to build houses, they are panels of beams, columns, and elbows (to lock the corners). Each panel will be perforated so that it can be connected to each other with nuts and bolts.
  • The floor uses elements of attic beams and multiplex wood planks.

Advantages
When compared to conventional landed houses, simple healthy instant homes have the following advantages:

  • The construction process is very practical and fast. One house unit measuring 3 x 3 meters can be built by 3 people in about 24 hours. So that the house construction process is estimated to be completed within 3 days (assuming the construction process lasts 8 hours per day).
  • Minimalist house model, so it is suitable for those of you who don’t like too grand architectural styles.
  • The price is much more affordable than landed houses, flats, or apartments.
  • Its durability and has been tested, because it gets the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) label. The instant houses have been built in various parts of Indonesia with a total of thousands hundreds of units.
  • Its simple construction system is resistant to earthquakes up to 8 on the Richter scale, making it suitable for placing in earthquake-prone areas, such as Aceh and Nias.
