No Need for a Craftsman: How to Repaint Wooden Window Frames

It’s time to repaint a wooden window frame when the paint looks dull or unattractive. You can do it yourself without the help of a professional.

The first step is to lay a tarp on the floor near the window frame. The tarp will act as a protective layer, preventing dirt and paint from getting on the floor during the painting process.

Next, clean the window frame with a clean cloth to remove any dust or dirt.

Apply masking tape to each side of the wall and windowpane next to the frame.

Prepare the wood paint to coat the surface of the window frame. Stir the paint in the container, then pour some into a clean container. Once finished, immediately reseal the wood paint container.

Diluting Wood Paint
Dilute wood paint in a clean container by mixing it with 10-20% thinner. For instance, if you have 500 milliliters of paint, add 50 to 100 milliliters of thinner. After diluting the paint, stir it again to dissolve it evenly.

Apply the paint to the wooden window frame using a brush. Make sure the brush is of good quality and suitable for the surface of the window frame.

Let the paint dry. After applying the wood paint, let it sit for 30 minutes to allow it to absorb. If the paint doesn’t stick to your hands after 30 minutes, apply a second coat for best results.

After applying the second coat, ensure that the paint covering the window frame has dried completely. Once dry, remove the masking tape and straighten the tarp on the floor.
