Outdated Kitchen Backsplash Colors According to Designers

A backsplash helps keep spills off the walls and can also add an aesthetic touch to the kitchen. Choosing a backsplash can be confusing, as there are many colors and patterns to choose from. According to some interior designers, backsplash trends are now leaning more towards a cozy, nature-inspired atmosphere. This is because homeowners want to create a warm inviting, charming kitchen atmosphere.

Now, some backsplash colors are considered outdated.

White is a timeless color. However, as preferences change towards a warmer and more natural feel, the light color of the backsplash is slowly being abandoned. White ceramic or porcelain is one backsplash design that has gone out of fashion. If the homeowners still want to use ceramic for the backsplash, they can use a beige shade. These small changes can transform a room from cold to warmer and more attractive.

There was a time when black ceramic backsplashes were very popular when the white minimalist style and grey interiors were on the rise. At that time, using black could create contrast in the room. However, black backsplashes often feel cold, uncomfortable, and impractical today. They expose every smudge, fingerprint, and water stain and require constant cleaning. While they provide a high contrast look, they can lack texture and ‘warmth’.

There is also a reddish-brown black backsplash. This colored backsplash can give an old-fashioned and heavy impression. It can also make the kitchen feel dark and artificial. The backsplash color can be replaced with more natural colors such as green or sea grey.

In the early 2000s, a Tuscan-inspired golden yellow was everywhere. This color was often found in kitchens because it gave the room a warm, European feel. But now it can make the room feel heavy and overpowering. It clashes with modern finishes, fights natural light, and makes everything around it look older than its age.

These are some backsplash colors that are considered outdated.
