Even it seems trivial, the creaking door hinge will be annoying when the sound is constantly heard. To fix it, you only need things that easy to find in the house. Here’s how to deal with door hinges squeaky easily.
Hairspray
Hairspray creates a polymer seal, preventing the squeaky door hinges from loosening and moving. Simply spray strong hold hairspray directly onto the hinges from about an inch away. Then open and close the door once or twice to spread the adhesive. No need to unpin, no hassle with lots of steps. However, using hairspray only lasts a short time, the shortest it lasts is only five days. The second round of spraying lasted longer, about 10 days. Overall, hairspray is great for dealing with squeaky doors in a pinch, but prepared to add it regularly or switch to a more durable solution.
Bath soap
Soap usually contains animal fat, which will lubricate the metal binder. Rub a bar of soap into the hinges until they are well lubricated. Homemade or organic soaps often work better because they have higher fat ingredient, and avoid soaps with glycerin, which cause metal hinges to rust.
Petroleum jelly
Another lubricant that can used is petroleum jelly, simply apply the petroleum jelly directly to the outside of the door hinge. Much like olive oil, this method is a little messy and ends up with a bit of jelly stuck to the wooden door frame. However, it washes off quickly and overall, it only takes 30 seconds to stop the squeak, and the effects last about 10 days.
Olive oil
Like soap and petroleum jelly, olive oil is a lubricant that will lighten door hinges and help them move more smoothly. You only need to apply a few drops of oil to each hinge, although this can be messy. To avoid a mess, use an oil can or an eyedropper, or apply some olive oil on a cloth and apply it on both sides of your hinge. Although it is a bit tricky to implement, this method works very well and long lasting.
