Premier Furniture, New Franklin Impact win in 12-and-under softball

Premier Furniture scored early and often in Babe Ruth 12-and-under softball last night at Lions Park by beating QuinlanAgency.com by a score of 18-7.

Premier Furniture jumped out to stay against QuinlanAgency.com and led 6-0 after one, 7-0 after two and 10-0 after 2 1/2 before giving up six runs in the bottom-half of the third.


Unfortunately for QA.com, they never got any closer in the ballgame as Premier Furniture came back and tacked on two more runs in the fourth and sixth again in the fifth to make it 18-6. Then, in the bottom-half of the fifth, QA.com plated one run to end the scoring in the ballgame.

Marie Gentry picked up the win on the mound for Premier Furniture while Katie Wood took the loss for QuinlanAgency.com.

In three innings, Gentry struck out eight batters and walked only two. Haley Hilden then came in and pitched one inning in relief and surrendered six runs on four hits and two walks. Then, to finish the game, Emily Gerhardt pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out one batter.

For QuinlanAgency.com, Katie Wood pitched the first-three innings and yielded 10 runs on 12 walks while striking out four. Addie Schmitz then came in and pitched two innings in relief and issued eight runs on four hits and four walks while striking out one batter.

Abby Humfeld led the hitting attack in the game for Premier Furniture with one triple and two RBIs. Lizzie Heaton and Katie Wood each had a single and two RBIs, while Addie Schmitz contributed one single and one RBI and Sawyer Quinlan with one single.

For QuinlanAgency.com, Haley Hilden and Daisy Scott each had one single and one RBI. Lauren Friedrich and Emily Gerhardt each had one single while Daisy Matney added one RBI.

In the nightcap, the New Franklin Impact appeared to have their hands full against P&C Trucking while playing to a 4-4 tie after the first inning.

However, after both teams failed to score in the second inning, New Franklin Impact came back and took the lead for good by pushing across two runs in each of the third and fourth innings of play and six again in the fifth to make it 14-4. Meanwhile, in the bottom-half of the fifth, P&C Trucking plated two runs only to lose the game by a score of 14-6.

Kalani Pihana was the winning pitcher in the game for New Franklin Impact while Kassie Hester took the loss for P&C Trucking.

In five innings, Pihana struck out nine batters and gave up six runs on three hits and 10 walks. Hester, meanwhile, pitched the first-two innings for P&C Trucking and allowed four runs on one hit and four walks while striking out two. Morgan Woods then came in and pitched three innings in relief and yielded 10 runs on two hits and eight walks while striking out five.

Pihana also had the only extra base hit in the game for New Franklin Impact with a double and two RBIs. Abbagail Prewitt had one single and one RBI while Dani Sears added one single.

For P&C Trucking, Kassie Hester went 2-for-3 with a single, double and two RBIs while Marissa Brown added one single.
