When you are looking for a new home window, there are many options to suit the style and budget of your home. Each type of window serves different purpose and there are many different window models to choose from.

Many considerations when choosing a window, whether it is for a replacement unit or for a new construction. Frame material, windows material options and energy efficiency are important elements. But before you decide to buy windows, you should consider the basic styles of windows, each styles has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are also variations in window styles, some of them are modifications or other combinations of styles.

Below is a list of window types:

  1. Single Hung Windows
    The main difference between single hung window and double hung window is how the different types of window parts move. With the single-hung window, the lower window pane or bottom sash moves up and down, and the upper sash remains stationary. This means that when you open the window, the upper sash is covered on the inside.
  2. Picture Window
    The picture window does not move and does not open. This makes it more energy efficient and allows for larger size than a ventilated window. Often used in combination to maximize the look.
  3. Sliding Window
    The sliding window operates horizontally to allow full top-down ventilation. Because they don’t open to the outside, they are an excellent choice for rooms that face walkways, porches or decks.
  4. Awning Windows
    The awning window is ideal for use in the rainy season, as it can withstand water when opened. The awning window is hinged at the top and opens out from the bottom, allowing for ventilation and protection from rain. Often placed higher on wall for privacy or combined with other windows for a better look.
  5. Casement Window
    Casement windows swing sideways or upwards to open. This allows the window to be made of solid glass and offers overall unobstructed view. Casement windows open out to the left or right allowing full top-down ventilation. Installing this window model in the kitchen can give you flexibility and make amazing combinations.
