American Decorative Arts will be selling this NO. 7 Shaker rocking chair at the Meet Me in St. Louis Antique and Garden Show.
At this year’s Meet Me in St. Louis Antiques Show, look for simple things.
Richard Vandall of American Decorative Arts in Canaan, N.H., is among the 55 dealers and will be selling furniture and collectibles from the Shaker (1770-1860) and Mission periods (1900-1920). Both of these distinctly American periods are noted for their superlative craftsmanship and lack of adornment.
Vandall’s Shaker collection includes a cabinet and traditional rocking chairs and other small household items. Among the Mission pieces are graceful designs by L&JG Stickley and John Limbert. The furnishings will be sold for under $1,800 for Mission and under $1,000 for Shaker.
For those who prefer their antiques a bit more intricate, the three-day event also will feature colorful 19th century majolica and jewelry by Wendy Richardson of Oxford, Ohio. She rescues Victorian and Art Nouveau silver from hairbrushes and mirrors, then creates pendants with semi-precious stones.

Other highlights include a lecture by Oriental rug expert Steve Sarver at 1 p.m. Saturday. Collectors can bring in pictures of their rugs for free written appraisals.
