House building models continue to evolve, from classic, modern, to contemporary models. These developments follow artistic achievements, community values as well as space and material conditions that continue to develop. In Indonesia, generally know the term ‘modern’ to refer to various models of houses. However, the term ‘modern’ house is not actually specific to a particular style.

There are several categories of home design that are known today. They are divided into two major concepts: modern and contemporary. Modern houses can be distinguished from classic styles mainly the decoration, where classic houses are decorative while modern houses are simpler.

Likewise, a modern house can be distinguished from a contemporary concept house. Contemporary homes have more developed values, and more adaptive to the environmental landscape. However, many also combine modern designs with these contemporary styles.

The modern house is one of earliest concepts among the concepts popular today. It existed in the Middle Ages, around the 19th and 20th centuries, which came along with the development of industry, as an alternative innovation to traditional or classical styles at that time.

Modern homes have a big role in the minimalist home concept or contemporary house today. Because of that, modern houses are similar to contemporary homes, so they are often considered the same.

However, modern homes are actually more suitable for the retro style, which is a manifestation of the true modern style. The main value of modern architectural style is simplicity. This value has applied in the buildings that don’t have any decoration, as well as the use of neutral colors such as white or gray.
