\nCULVER CITY, Calif. \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Case goods and occasional importer Powell has opened a 340,000-square-foot distribution center in

\n Ontario, Calif., about 50 miles east of its headquarters here, to serve the western United States.<\/p>\n
East Coast shipments are handled through its 600,000-square-foot Greensboro, N.C., distribution center, so the new facility brings Powell\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s total warehouse space to nearly 1 million square feet.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The company has experienced continued sales increases over the last four years, and in 2012 Powell saw unprecedented growth in sales on both the East and West Coast,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Bill Benton, president and CEO. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153To accommodate West Coast increased demand and reduce shipping times, we have opened our new state-of-the-art Ontario, California, facility. This will play a vital role in providing the highest level of service to our customers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
Previously, Powell had handled all shipments from the North Carolina facility.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This distribution center will allow us provide targeted three-day shipping to the Western half of the United States,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Jim Goergen, chief operating officer. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We will eliminate extra handling, plus accommodate West Coast will-call orders.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
At the Las Vegas Market July 24-28, Powell will launch a new youth group at the market, tentatively called Rustica, which will be part of its bedroom-in-a-box program. The rustic pine group will be offered with a nightstand, dresser, mirror and headboard \u00e2\u20ac\u201d twin or full size \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and ships in a single carton.<\/p>\n
