Samuel Lawrence Furniture Co., a manufacturer with about 75 employees in southwest Phoenix, is being acquired by a Virginia company.

\n Samuel Lawrence, which makes wooden bedroom, dining room, juvenile and office furniture for major retailers, is being merged with Pulaski Furniture to form a holding company called Home Meridian International.<\/p>\n
Goldner Hawn Johnson & Morrison, a Minneapolis private equity firm, acquired Samuel Lawrence in 1997 and helped its management transform the company from a predominantly U.S.-based furniture manufacturer to a global one focusing on design, sourcing and marketing. The company also has offices in North Carolina and China.<\/p>\n
Goldner Hawn Managing Director Gary Obermiller said the sale is not expected to negatively affect operations at the Phoenix company’s 77,000-square-foot facility.<\/p>\n
“SLF has become a leader in the globalization of the furniture industry,” said Obermiller, adding the combined company will use the processes in place in Phoenix, which could create new opportunities.<\/p>\n
The combined company will be lead George Revington, former chief executive of Samuel Lawrence.<\/p>\n
“By combining SLF’s speed-to-market and operational advantages with Pulaski’s strength in marketing and brand development, Home Meridian International will own a unique space in the furniture industry today,” said Revington.<\/p>\n
