\nThe widely respected industry veteran Michael Pitman has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Durham Furniture,

\none of North America\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest and leading producers of better quality solid wood bedroom furniture.<\/p>\n
He assumes his post on October 2, 2013 and succeeds Keith McSpurren, who has served as chief executive officer for the past 18 months.<\/p>\n
Mr. Pitman brings 25 years of industry-specific experience to his new position. Most recently, he served as Vice President\/Division Sales for Schnadig Corporation. He has also held senior sales and marketing positions with Lexington Home Brands.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153His primary focus has been on driving sales results for both of these significant case goods producers,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr. McSpurren said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153He possesses a strong understanding of the Canadian and U.S. markets coupled with a reputation for integrity and strategic thinking. He consistently demonstrates an ability to bring together all functional areas of the business (sales, marketing, product development, manufacturing, finance and human resources) to deliver superior results.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Mr. McSpurren will remain on Durham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Board of Directors and return to playing a more active role with Flagstone Capital, the private equity fund he helped establish in 2001. The Toronto-based Flagstone also has an equity stake in Durham Furniture.<\/p>\n
Mr. McSpurren points out his mandate as CEO was to lead the transition of Durham Furniture from being the hard-driving entrepreneurial company it was during most of the 1990s into the mature, stable, growing business it is now becoming.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Although there are significant challenges ahead for all companies in our industry, Durham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest structural changes are behind us,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now that the turnaround is complete, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s time to execute the plan.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
Over the past 18 months under Mr. McSpurren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leadership, Durham has:<\/p>\n
Moved to a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dclean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 manufacturing platform
\nAssembled a new senior management team
\nImproved the profitability of its retail partners by reducing their inventory
\nReduced delivery times on virtually all orders to six weeks
\nExpanded its sales network significantly
\nNegotiated new arrangements with its financial partners, and
\nLaunched a second brand called Orville & Mead<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The last piece of the transition plan was to recruit a driven, open-minded leader with a significant track record in helping to build every business he has been involved in.
