The three-year-old East Village Opera Company will perform Saturday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. in the High Point Theater, next to the Commerce Avenue entrance to the International Home Furnishings Center. The event, open to the community and to marketgoers, is free, but tickets are required for admission.<\/p>\n
The New York-based troupe consists of a five-piece rock band, a string quartet and two vocalists. They present standard, popular operatic arias by such composers as Mozart, Verdi and Puccini, but in modern dress, sometimes in the original language and sometimes in English.<\/p>\n
The EVOC has performed at such events as the 2013 Miss USA Pageant.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153With modern recording technology and a wide variety of musical styles at our disposal, our goal has been to approach these songs the way we feel the composers would were they alive today,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said East Village Opera Company co-founder and vocalist Tyley Ross.<\/p>\n
