\nMISSISSAUGA, Ontario \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Association executive Murray Vaughan has been named president of
\n\t\t
\nthe Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn., effective Monday.<\/p>\n
He succeeds David Hanna, who retired from the post in mid-October.<\/p>\n
Vaughan joins the OFMA after 17 years with Tourism Toronto, most recently as vice president of corporate services. Laine Reynolds, chairman of the OFMA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s board of directors, said Vaughan has \u00e2\u20ac\u0153an extensive knowledge of the needs of membership-based industry associations and a keen understanding of the strategic planning necessary to make them successful.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
Vaughan has more than 20 years of management experience at member-driven not-for-profit organizations.<\/p>\n
Reynolds, who also is vice president of sales for upholstery house Superstyle Furniture, said the OFMA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s board of directors went outside of the industry to find a president, believing a fresh voice and perspective would aid in the 105-year-old association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s efforts to become more relevant and important to furniture manufacturers in Ontario.<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no secret that furniture manufacturing in Ontario has been suffering in recent years,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Reynolds said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The association\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term goal is to devise new strategies and initiatives to help our members compete in a fast-changing, competitive environment while continuing to provide real added-value services such as our highly successful workplace safety group.
