\nWell, whether it is contemporary, modern or traditional you have to stop in Turk Furniture Outlet, 212 N. Chicago St., in downtown Joliet before you go anywhere else.<\/p>\n
My thanks go out to my friend, Sue Turk , who stopped by the house the other day while I was raking leaves and gave me the idea for this article. Sue suggested that I call the store and set up a time to meet with Sam Herr , who is in charge of the Turk downtown outlet.<\/p>\n
So popped in one Saturday afternoon and spotted Sam in the back with fellow employee Helen Lehmann . Several other employees were around either selling or moving purchased items to the side alley to be loaded into customers vehicles. These key players were: Jamie Bishop , Lucy Avila , Scott Knutson and Chris Bannon .<\/p>\n
When Sam got a moment, we sat down to chat on a piece of furniture that gave a new definition to couch potato.<\/p>\n
The outlet store is pretty much the last step of furniture rotation for Turk Furniture. The chain has five showrooms located in Joliet, Kankakee, Ottawa, LaSalle and Danville.<\/p>\n
Furniture starts in the showrooms. Items displayed include everything from sofas, recliners, love seats, dining room sets, bedroom furniture, armoires, office furniture, cabinets and children’s furniture (including bunk beds and trundle beds).<\/p>\n
The next step is these items go on sale or are sold not necessarily as a set.<\/p>\n
An example would be an upholstered sectional sofa. The two larger pieces might be sold, but not the connecting quarter piece that is shaped like a wedge.<\/p>\n
So, what happens to this piece? Well, I was sitting on one for only $58 while I was talking to Sam.<\/p>\n
So, after the next markdown or two, or when odd pieces to a set are left over … hence, Turk Furniture Outlet!<\/p>\n
Incidentally, the piece I was sitting on was bought by Sher Sohol of Joliet moments later. She learned of the outlet from girlfriend Mari Delgato .<\/p>\n
On the other end of the store were Yvette Foster , husband, Anthony , and son, Armani , who is in fifth grade at the new William B. Orenic School in Shorewood. Both of the guys were relaxing in Berkline microfiber recliners priced in the mid $300s.<\/p>\n
“Hey, it saves me money,” said Anthony.<\/p>\n
Another great product from Berkline at the outlet was a lift chair. Sam said lift chairs really help older people who have a difficult time getting up. On sale in the Turk showroom, the price was $899 versus the outlet price of $466!<\/p>\n
Upstairs, Virginia Dunn was with sister, Evelia Bejar , who just purchased a Canadel table with four matching chairs for $225. The sale price at Turk for this set had been $1,349.95.<\/p>\n
The outlet carries other name brands such as Broyhill, Clayton Marcus, Durham, Natuzzi, Brookline and Mobiel.<\/p>\n
New items are received weekly. Keep in mind store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n
