{"id":286,"date":"2013-03-16T09:51:07","date_gmt":"2013-03-16T04:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/indonesia-furniture.com\/news\/?p=286"},"modified":"2013-03-16T09:51:07","modified_gmt":"2013-03-16T04:21:07","slug":"high-points-wood-armfield-closing-utility-craft-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indonesia-furniture.com\/articles\/high-points-wood-armfield-closing-utility-craft-store\/","title":{"rendered":"High Point\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Wood-Armfield closing Utility Craft store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clint Engel<br \/>\nTo consolidate in its larger showroom downtown<br \/>\nHIGH POINT \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Wood-Armfield is closing its 16,000-square-foot Utility Craft store here after 20 years, choosing to consolidate the business into its larger showroom near downtown.<\/p>\n<p><!--adsense--><\/p>\n<p>The Top 100 company hired Daniel Lynch Sales to run the closing sale, which began Tuesday and is expected to be completed in about six weeks, said Phil Kennett, president of the four-store company, which also operates a High Point clearance center and Gallahan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in Fredericksburg, Va. He would not disclose the projected revenues from the closing sale but said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It should be nice.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n <!--more--><\/p>\n<p> Kennett said the consolidation is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153something we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had in the works for a long time. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re moving the entire staff (to Wood-Armfield) where they have access \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 to a lot more showroom and a lot more product and lines.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Kennett said all the major lines at Utility Craft \u00e2\u20ac\u201d including Century, Hooker, Stanley, Lexington, American Drew, Bradington-Young, Hickory Chair, Nichols &#038; Stone, Harden, Statton and Lane \u00e2\u20ac\u201d are duplicated at the 136,000-square-foot, five-level Wood-Armfield store downtown, where the displays are much larger.<\/p>\n<p>Utility Craft wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t able to show certain other lines that Wood-Armfield carries, such as Thomasville and Bernhardt, because of gallery requirements and the limited space.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We feel this will give that (Utility Craft) staff a lot more opportunity to do more business,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Kennett said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll save some overhead, but do more business.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Kennett wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t disclose the annual sales of Utility Craft but said it account for a small part of the retailer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s volume, and said he believes a business boost at Wood-Armfield will more than make up for the closing.<\/p>\n<p>The retailer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sales for 2012 were unavailable. Furniture\/Today estimates Wood-Armfield had furniture, bedding and accessories sales in 2004 of about $64.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>This past fall, the company closed a 20,000-square-foot showroom in the Atrium Furniture Mall in downtown High Point as the Atrium prepared to convert from a retail center to a wholesale furniture showroom building.
