\n “(It’s closing) will change the look of downtown retail,” he said.<\/p>\n
The store, built in 1930 by his great grandfather, H. E. Veatch, has been located on West Main since its inception.<\/p>\n
And since, they have specialized in the sale of furniture, beddings, stoves, water heaters, and rugs.<\/p>\n
After H. E. started the business in 1930, five generations of family would own and work in Veatch’s Furniture Company.<\/p>\n
H. E., A. L., Gordon, Uncle Jimmy, Mary Catherine (Bobby’s mother), Bobby, and his three sons have all played a part in its history. Kathy, Bobby’s wife, has also worked in the family business.<\/p>\n
In 1947, The Advocate documented the store’s remodel in their July 10th edition.<\/p>\n
“The Veatch’s have been here lot of years. We hate to leave, but it’s time to move on,” explained Bobby.<\/p>\n
After a “very successful liquidation” sale, Veatch’s Furniture Co. closed last Saturday at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
