A story in The TRIBUNE-STAR on August 20 reported that “Officials on Monday were investigating the cause of a fire in a Paris, Ill., furniture store where personnel from seven fire departments battled an inferno Friday that sent three firefighters to the hospital.” The article noted that the building, one of five in the complex was a total loss.<\/p>\n

The BALTIMORE BUSINESS JOURNAL reported that, “The owners of more than 25 furniture stores sponsored an ad in Monday’s Baltimore Examiner decrying a proposed bump in the sales tax. The retailers include Shofer’s Furniture, Gardiner’s Furniture and Gavigan’s Furniture.”<\/p>\n
The story notes that House Bill 846 calls for a one percent sales tax increase to six percent.<\/p>\n
