It contains a high concentration of oil which prevents it from rotting, warping and splintering.<br \/>\nThe best set to buy is made of kiln-dried teak with interlocking joints.<br \/>\n– How to maintain: Teak does not have to be sealed, stained or painted, but if left untreated, it will turn silvery grey from exposure to the sun and rain.<br \/>\nTo preserve the natural blond finish oil teak furniture a couple of times a year.<br \/>\nCAST ALUMINUM<br \/>\nAvailable in a wide variety of intricate patterns and designs, hefty cast aluminum is solid and sturdy.<br \/>\nIts baked-on powder coating won’t rust or corrode, making it totally maintenance free and weather resistant. It will chip and flake over time, but touch-up paint is available.<br \/>\n– How to maintain: Besides a quick rub-down with a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt, try refreshing the finish with an automotive cleaner and wax polish.<br \/>\nSTAINLESS STEEL<br \/>\nThe most expensive option, but incredibly strong and long-lasting. Stainless steel is ideal for outdoor use because it won’t rust and can be left outside all year long.<br \/>\n– How to maintain: Virtually maintenance free. Wash down with damp cloth and wipe dry to prevent streaks. Again, the cushions should be stored inside.<br \/>\nSources: May issue of Canadian House & Home (www.houseandhome.com).
