The family-owned firm lovingly restores all types of furniture for homes, offices and hotels. Director Joanne Beasley gave PAUL ROBINS the lowdown on the business<\/p>\n

The bosses<\/strong>: Directors Jamie and Joanne Beasley. Jamie is a skilled upholsterer and now provides around 40 per cent of all sales orders while Joanne has worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles.<\/p>\n

What is your business about?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We specialise in renovating, re-upholstering and refurbishing your existing furniture back to good as new condition.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We can re-polish table tops where hot drinks have left marks on your wood or water damage has ruined your existing upholstery or if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d just like a change of colour or texture.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We can cater for one chair to 1,000 and all work is hand-laboured, whether for re-upholstery or re-polishing.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We can replicate existing styles to keep your furniture looking the same as it would have originally or we can modify if you are moving and require cut down furniture. We also offer a full interior design service and make bespoke new office furniture to fit any space you have available.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

How did you start?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jamie started the business in 1990 when he was no longer able to work for our late father John, who was a successful upholsterer.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jamie started out sharing a building with a mechanic and fully re-upholstering Porsche car interiors with new leather trims. We have come on a long way since then!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Who are your customers?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Anyone who has good quality furniture that has become tired or worn over the years. We work with domestic customers and will help with colour schemes and give practical advice on what fabrics are most suitable.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We also have a large portfolio of blue chip companies who promote a recycling culture within their organization as our green services stop furniture ending up in a landfill.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

How many employees do you have?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We have 20 full-time staff, mainly consisting of skilled upholsterers and woodwork polishers. Everyone is very hands on and we take great pride in making sure the quality of finished work is unbeatable.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

How do you restore a piece of furniture?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We collect furniture from people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s homes or workplace and strip it back to the basic frame. We re-upholster, repair, re-polish and completely transform furniture to sometimes better than the original.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We can also modify furniture and will make bespoke new soft furnishings and sofas to order.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

What is business like at the moment?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are seeing an upturn of higher quality furniture coming our way for re-upholstery as companies are getting targeted to perform better in terms of helping the environment and not disposing of chairs simply because the fabric is not the new corporate colour.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are also seeing more walk-in domestic customers who have wandered in or found us on the internet and been amazed at what goes on here.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

What\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the best thing about the company?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our staff, our quality and our commitment to looking after our customers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Tell me about your relocation and rebranding?<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We recently moved a specialist woodwork repair and re-polishing company into our hectic factory.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Their company was called M&G Furniture Services and our limited name is Berkshire Office Furniture. We rebranded to our trading name of Berkshire Furniture Services to reflect the services that we now offer rather than limit to people looking for office furniture in Berkshire.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The location is great. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen an increase in people just stopping by to find out what we do since the new Tesco has opened.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
