The majority, however, argued the ordinance is an important tool for safety and protecting property values.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Brent Hoffman, the swing vote in favor of the ordinance, said, &#8220;The difficulty of individual rights and what color they can paint their home and how they can store things in their front yard whether it be a fridge or a stove or otherwise is always an interesting and controversial debatable point, but the reality is most cities I&#8217;ve ever lived in had a similar ordinance.
