Pupils to design new colour scheme for street furniture

PUPILS at Kirton Middlecott School are to design new colour schemes for the controversial ‘street furniture’ which has caused such heated debate in the village.

Around 50 people attended a public meeting last week organised by Kirton Parish Council to discuss the issue of repainting the brightly-coloured benches, signs and gates which were installed around the village
earlier this year at a
cost of £130,000.
A range of views were aired about the sculptures, with most people wanting to see the colours toned down to some extent.
“We couldn’t come to a consensus about a new design,” said George Davies, chairman of Kirton Parish Council. “There were several people who wanted to keep it as it is, and other people who wanted to see different degrees of repainting.
“What we are going to do is ask the art classes at Middlecott School to come up with some designs based on suggestions made by members of the public. Then we will take the school’s designs, see which one people like the best, and go with that.”
Mr Davies said the parish council was also looking at the possibility of moving the large ‘wheat seat’ from its current siting beside the war memorial to a new home, most likely outside Woodlands Court on Boston Road.
