PULASKI, Va. — For the second time in two years, Pulaski is moving its curio operation as it closes another plant.
The closing of Plant 12 here will leave Pulaski with a single domestic plant as it shifts more of its line to imports. The announcement came at the end of the High Point Market and was less than two months after Pulaski’s merger with importer SLF at the end of August.
Two years ago, Pulaski sold its Ridgeway clock line and plant to Howard Miller and then moved its curio production into Plant 12. As the plant closes in late December, Pulaski will lay off 119 workers and provide severance and other benefits.
“This decision will allow the company to take greater advantage of manufacturing efficiencies and improve competitiveness,” the company said in a press release. “The consolidated facility will support Pulaski’s domestic production of curios and consoles. When the consolidation is complete, Pulaski Furniture will employ 400, including administrative personnel (174) and manufacturing employees (226).”
Town officials said that Plant 12 is a modern facility, which should make it valuable to other manufacturers.
