Broyhill to close last U.S. case goods plant

LENOIR, N.C. — Broyhill Furniture Inds. will close its Lenoir Furniture Corp. manufacturing facility here in February,

its last remaining case goods plant in the United States.

The plant employs 390 people. The shutdown will leave Broyhill with two remaining domestic upholstery plants, one fabric facility and several warehouses in North Carolina.

Some employees may continue to work at the facility until Feb. 16, preparing it for sale, and some shipping and maintenance departments may work as late as April 28, when Broyhill will permanently close the facility.

The company, which already imports most of its wood products, cited continuing changes in the global business environment for furniture manufacturing for the decision.

Broyhill Furniture closed its 522,000-square-foot, 692-employee Pacemaker case goods plant here earlier this year, as well as an 187,288-square-foot frame parts plant in Marion, N.C.

In August, the company also sold a 193,000 square foot particleboard plant in Lenoir.

Broyhill is a part of Furniture Brands International.
