Opening date set for new furniture store

Morris Home Furnishings will officially open an Ashley Furniture Homestore in Springfield April 12.

The store is Morris’ first location in Springfield and will be at the Bechtle Crossing shopping center. The company originally announced plans for the store in January.

The 30,000-square-foot Ashley Furniture store will emply 20 people and is the sixth operated by Morris. The company also operates Ashley stores in Miamisburg, Beavercreek, Cincinnati, Columbus as well as Crescent Springs, Ky. Morris also operates stores under the Morris Home Furnishings and Thomasville nameplates, and has an outlet store in Fairborn.

Larry Klaben, president and chief executive officer for Morris, has said previously that he targeted Springfield for expansion because customers there wanted a store in their community. Additionally, Klaben has said that the move made sense because, since 2000, both Roberds and Value City Furniture have closed stores in Clark County.

The Ashley showroom carries furnishings made by Ashley Furniture Industries Inc. Offerings include bedroom, dining room, casual dining, occasional tables, entertainment centers, home office, recliners, mattresses, accessories and accents.
