Wichita furniture store to close

After 56 years, Crandall’s Interiors will be closing its doors.

Owner Bill Crandall says sales have been declining at the store at 1646 E. 2nd St.

The furniture store this week began a five-week sale of its inventory. After that, the store will sell its building as well as a five-acre piece of ground on East Harry Street, between Rock Road and Webb Road, that at one time served as the store’ s warehouse.

Crandall says the store was started in 1951 at its present location by his parents, Monroe and Marcele Crandall. Bill Crandall took over its operations in 1987.

He and his mother operate the business today. But Bill Crandall, 55, says he never married and has no children to continue the family business.

“It’s just a combination of the sales situation and the family situation. So we decided to take this route,” Crandall says.
