HIGH POINT — Ashley Manor Furniture, an upper-end furniture company based in High Point, is closing July 1 because of tough competition with cheap imported goods, the president of the company said today.
The company has 26 employees at its showroom and factory, both in High Point.
Announcing the decision for closing to the employees was the worst thing he had ever done, President Richard Miller said today.
Miller’s father had worked for the company, and Miller has been president for 35 years.
He knew a couple of employees who had been there with him since the beginning, Miller said.
“It was a lot of fun,” Miller said of his time with Ashley Manor. “I enjoyed it.”
Miller said he does not know what he will do now.
“Have to get through this closing first,” he said. “Have to see what opportunities are available.”
