10 Brazilian furniture makers to show at Vegas market

— Furniture Today,
Trade group ABIMAD will offer buyers free trips to its market in Brazil

LAS VEGAS — Ten Brazilian contemporary furniture manufacturers and their trade group will show in three locations at the summer market here.

All the factories are members of ABIMAD, the Brazilian Contemporary Furniture & Home Décor Manufacturers Assn., and already ship product to the United States.

The companies will exhibit in the World Market Center’s Building A, space 1000, and in the temporary Pavilion 1, space P-11302. ABIMAD also will have a booth at the Sands Expo & Convention Center to assist U.S. and other buyers interested in sourcing Brazilian furniture.

Product will include case goods, dining sets, fabric- and leather-covered seating, decorative accessories and wall décor.

The companies are Arte Nova (case goods), Connect Sofas (upholstery), Formanova (case goods), Irimar (upholstery, wood furniture), Minuano (leather), Modulaque (leather), Sarquis Samara (chairs, accessories), Scarazzato (accessories), Sier (entertainment furniture, chairs), and Viver de Arte (lamps, art, accessories).

ABIMAD said it will use the three locations to showcase the best in Brazilian contemporary home furnishings, and to promote its International Buyers Trade Mission, in which it provides potential buyers with all-expense-paid trips to ABIMAD’s furniture show in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The United States is Brazil’s largest furniture destination country, with annual shipments of about $300 million. In the past five years, however, Brazil’s currency has strengthened by over 30% against the U.S. dollar, making its products relatively more expensive in the United States.

The Brazilian furniture industry, largely through ABIMAD, has worked to overcome the currency shift by showing here and in High Point, and by hosting U.S. excursions to its show.

At its last show in February, about 75 ABIMAD manufacturers displayed certification attesting they met certain exporting requirements.

The Las Vegas Market runs July 30-Aug. 3. Sands Expo exhibits will be open July 31-Aug. 3.
