The Morganton Herald reported that “Henredon employees found out Thursday the (Morganton, NC) plant will close at the end of the year, putting 521 employees out of work.

“President of HDM Furniture Industries Tom Tilley announced the closing to the employees Thursday afternoon. According to the announcement, most of the products manufactured at the local plant will be outsourced.’

Lacrossetribune.com wrote on September 18th that, “Ashley Furniture Industries Inc. will donate nearly $1 million in furniture to flood victims in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Arcadia-based furniture manufacturing company said Monday.

“Ashley plans to give up to 500 mattresses, box springs and bed frames, with bed linens; up to 200 bedroom sets; and up to 200 living room sets, Karen Wanek said…”

NYTimes.com reported that, “One million cribs designed by Simplicity for Children, a manufacturer based in Pennsylvania, have been recalled after the suffocation deaths of at least two children, the government said yesterday. It was the company’s fourth recall in a little more than two years.”
