Leading French furniture brand Gautier is all set to hit the Indian retail market by the end of the year with a comprehensive range of furniture for children and infants.

The $234.37 million French conglomerate plans to open its first store by December-end to enter the burgeoning Indian retail market, which is about $350 billion.

‘The escalating lifestyle aspirations of the new-age Indian consumers along with the retail industry boom sweeping through the country has prompted our company to seriously look at establishing its presence in the Indian market,’ M. Dominique Soulard, chairman and managing director of Gautier, said in a press statement.

Apart from the visual and aesthetic appeal of the kids’ furniture, the company claims that the products are designed and manufactured to stringent international safety and comfort requirements.

In addition, the thematic concepts of its bedrooms, living rooms and storage units would appeal to the customers, it said.

The company plans to set up large format – 20,000 to 40,000 sq ft – retail outlets throughout the country where a range of furniture and home solutions, designed and manufactured by the firm in France, will be retailed.

Currently, the firm is looking for a partnership and negotiating with some leading retail companies in the country to forge an alliance.
