Tips for moving furniture

phillyBurbs.com
We’ve all had to do it at one point or another and the process isn’t easy. In fact, let’s just say it– moving furniture is the pits. I’ve had a ton of problems attempting to cram sofas and chairs through doorways, get bookcases up a flight of stairs and shove a queen size mattress into the back of an SUV.
Thankfully my furniture has been relatively cheap up until this point in my life, so the thought of damage never really bothered me that much. I’ve purchased most of my apartment furnishings from Ikea, Target and antique stores. But if you have spent time collecting pieces that you love and don’t want to part with, then moving them can pose a problem– especially if you are doing it all by yourself.

That’s why I highly recommend this article from Apartment Therapy. It gives a few suggestions on how to complete the task of moving or rearranging furniture without damaging the pieces or hurting yourself in the process. For instance, make sure to measure doorways BEFORE you try to put an oversized armoire through. Also, try to decide where you will put things before you bring them into the room. This way, you won’t have a huge pile of furniture sitting in the doorway or the middle of the room.

And I wonder if those furniture straps actually work. Has anyone tried to use them?
