Crossville Arts Council needs your old wood furniture

By Judy Pearson / Chronicle contributor

After one of the coldest winters in recent memory, the weather is beginning to show promise of spring. Time to clean out the garage, attic, and storage room of unused furniture.

Forget about time-consuming and back-breaking yard sales. The Crossville Arts Council will gladly take unused wood furniture off your hands. Their painted furniture auction, “Mountain Chair-ubs,” is coming up on May 15, and they need your old pieces to spruce up, paint up, decorate and make beautiful again.

Painted furniture pieces are making a strong comeback on the home décor scene, and Arts Council members will turn your unused furniture into a one-of-a-kind work of art. Then you can come to the auction and buy it back as a decorative accent for your home, or as a gift for some lucky person.

Old wooden chairs are their favorite canvas, but smaller items (or larger ones) will eagerly be accepted. It may sport daisies or tigers, a local landmark or our national flag. Whatever their artists choose to bring the character of your piece of furniture to life, they guarantee you’ll be amazed.

Proceeds from this year’s auction will provide funding for a storytelling festival for kids of all ages next fall. So call the Crossville Arts Council to donate or to paint. Either way, it’s a win-win situation for all concerned.
