Put your outstanding furniture designs in the spotlight

There are two big design deadlines coming up that furniture sources won’t want to miss — submissions for Furniture/Today’s First Look section, due March 27, and entries for the annual Pinnacle Awards competition, due June 1.

The First Look section, which will appear in Furniture/Today’s April 25 issue distributed at the High Point Market, is the industry’s most comprehensive preview of new furniture and bedding products featured at the show. It will include dozens of photos of product introductions, along with detailed stories about strategies and outlooks for market.

A must-read resource for retailers shopping market, the presentation includes a roundup of the key style trends shaping this season’s market, as well as category-by-category highlights of major introductions.

The next deadline furniture sources need to pencil in on their calendars is June 1, the cutoff for submissions to this year’s Pinnacle Award competition. Sponsored by the American Society of Furniture Designers, the Pinnacle Award program honors outstanding furniture designs that are in production and available for sale in retail stores.

The awards recognize design excellence in 15 specific categories, from accessories and bedroom to stationary upholstery and summer/casual. Criteria include the extent to which a design delivers value by combining visual appearance and function; uses available materials and production technology; and meets the needs of consumers.

The program has grown steadily since its launch in 1995, generating great exposure for the industry, its products and its designers. Any designer or manufacturer worldwide is invited to participate.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner — our industry’s equivalent of the Oscars or Grammies — on Oct. 19 during the fall High Point Market.

More information is available at American Society of Furniture Designers.

Oh, before I forget, there’s one other design date worth remembering: May 4. That’s the deadline for submitting photos for Furniture/Today’s Best of Market section. To be considered, products must be well-received introductions from the April High Point Market. Furniture in all categories and price points will be considered.
