Wicker baskets are an option for storing various objects at home and part of home decor because of their beautiful look. To maintain the basket and make it last, wicker baskets need to cleaned regularly.
Clean natural wicker baskets
Remove dust
Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to vacuum the dust from the outside and inside of the matting.
Use a small brush to remove dust.
Use a microfiber duster to remove dust and cobwebs.
Clean the stain
Mix a solution of warm water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid in a small bowl. Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and wring it out so it doesn’t drip. Clean any areas with food particles or stains. Dip a clean cloth in plain water and wipe the cleaned area to remove any soap residue. Let the basket dry. Placed it away from hot sun or direct sunlight, better to put it in some space with good ventilation.
Remove mold
Mix a solution of one part vinegar to four parts water in a small bowl. Dip a toothbrush or microfiber cloth into the solution. Clean the mold from the matting. Use a toothbrush to reach tight corners. Dip a clean microfiber cloth in plain water and rinse the cleaned area. Let the wicker basket dry. It’s best not to use chlorine bleach or harsh cleaners to remove mildew or stains from wicker baskets. Chemicals can cause natural plant elements to dry out and break more easily. Also, don’t immerse the natural wicker basket in water or let it stay wet for extended periods of time.

Remove stains
Use a solution of warm water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid to remove the stain with a microfiber cloth.
If the basket is very dirty, scrub the wicker use a toothbrush dipped in a soapy solution, then rinsed under running water.
Treat mold stains with a solution of one part vinegar to four parts water.
Let the synthetic fiber dry and place it away from heat or sunlight.
Tips to make woven baskets last longer
Store wicker baskets in a cool and dry area. Placed away from direct sunlight which can fade the colors.
Store baskets on a shelf but don’t hanging them to prevent damage to the handles.
Do not soak natural wicker baskets.
Do not stack heavy baskets on top of one another to prevent damage and warping of the wicker.

How often to use and how to wear wicker baskets will determine how often wicker baskets need to cleaned. If you use baskets to store plants and mold or mildew develops from moisture, the wicker baskets should cleaned immediately. Wicker baskets used for food storage should be cleaned after you use it. For decorative wicker baskets, dust them weekly and thoroughly as needed.
