Helps ‘soften the office environment’
HIGH POINTÂ — When AICO launched AICO Office Systems in April 2012, a key goal was to diversify business beyond residential home furnishings.
The designs of its executive desks, lateral file cabinets, bookcases, computer credenza and hutch units and conference tables mirror the high style of AICO’s residential case goods, and the company has learned it also doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to merchandising.
During the April market, for example, it mixed in new bars and fireplaces with AICO Office Systems products. Retailing at $2,995, the bar units included the Trevi model, introduced at the January Las Vegas market, and a new model that ties in with its Eden collection.
The bars are nearly 8 feet in height and include features such as hideable stainless steel sinks, removable cutting boards, wine bottle storage and three-way touch lighting. Company officials said the bars are more suitable for office uses than traditional home bar and stool setups.
“You don’t want to create a saloon effect,†said AICO President Larry Rinaldi.
At the same time, Rinaldi said, AICO is making a concerted effort to soften the office environment with a more residential feel. The wall bars and fireplace units help accomplish that, he said.
“We encourage bars and fireplaces to be used (in the office setting),†Rinaldi said, adding they help inspire “creative thinking and soften the environment no matter how tough the day is.â€
The company will continue to mix new bars and fireplaces into AICO Office Systems settings, he said, and also will place greater emphasis on rugs, lighting and even plants in the office setting.
“I think it brings a level of civility to an office,†Rinaldi said, noting the approach is meant to appeal to both male and female executives.
