Bankrupt Furniture Store Plans Liquidation Sale

Thousands Put Down Deposits On Furniture Never Delivered
ROCKVILLE, Md. — Bankrupt Mastercraft Interiors began liquidating furniture this week, but it is doing so quietly.

Mastercraft shocked thousands of former customers in May when it shut down

all five of its stores and declared bankruptcy due to more than $25.5 million in debt. Company officials estimated that 2,000 customers had put down thousands of dollars on orders that will never be delivered.

One former customer said she put a $6,000 deposit down on a dining room set at the Mastercraft in Rockville but never received it. She was shocked to learn that the store will reopen Friday to liquidate everything inside. She said customers with outstanding claims should have been notified and given the first opportunity to buy the remaining furniture.

Some of the furniture is already on sale. David Lasner, of Planned Furniture Promotions, the company in charge of the liquidation sale, said furniture at the Beltsville warehouse has been on sale for two days.

The location in Rockville, as well as the stores in Fairfax and Arlington, will open at 10 a.m. for the liquidation sale Friday.

Mastercraft representative had no comment Wednesday.
