Choosing Gazebo Materials and Maintenance

Having a gazebo is nice for lounging on the weekend or taking a break from busy activities. Although the models and shapes come in several choices, gazebos certainly have six primary elements to withstand wind loads or goods without being planted. Second, a wooden floor (for a stage-style gazebo) is a choice of lightweight or cement flooring (sloping gazebo). Third, columns or support poles that can utilize wood for tropical and natural-style gazebos.

Because the gazebo is a small additional building and does not have a massive load like a house, the gazebo columns do not need to be too high to be more proportional. Generally, a 2×2 m gazebo building is built with high-quality hardwood materials such as teak, merbau, or Bengkirai. Want something cheaper? Usually glugu wood (coconut wood) and bamboo can be alternatives.

And other elements are the final parts such as beams and roofs. Both of them strengthen the overall structure of the Gazebo. The construction of the gazebo roof is certainly not as complicated as other large building’s roofs. So the materials used are lighter and more natural such as palm fiber, cogongrass, or tiles.

The choice of materials must consider the location of the Gazebo. It is close to water, built in a stage style far from the ground or gets influenced by sunlight and rain. These considerations are useful for ensuring a functional and comfortable gazebo for users.

Merbau wood is water and termite resistant so it is more durable than other woods. Moreover, this wood is also easy to find in various regions of Indonesia.

Bamboo: lightweight, easy to shape and adjust, anti-termite, and easy and simple finish.

Based on the primary elements and materials, of course, the maintenance between high-quality wood and softwood or bamboo is different.

Anti-termite gazebo
A distance from the ground makes the wooden or bamboo gazebo construction vulnerable to termite attacks. Even if you use anti-termite materials, you still need to take precautions.

Make sure to apply anti-termite liquid to the wood of the gazebo columns. The method is also practical, spray it with biocide insecticide liquid mixed with water according to the measurements before assembling and finishing.

Exterior gazebo coating that is resistant to extreme weather
Outdoor wooden or bamboo gazebos often experience finishing problems such as dull colors, and curved gazebo floor surfaces due to hot or cold weather due to rain. Therefore, extra protection is needed for outdoor gazebos to make them more durable.
