Furniture Brands Backs 2Q Profit Outlook

Furniture Brands International Reaffirms Expectations for 2nd-Quarter Earnings
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Furniture Brands International Inc.

on Wednesday reaffirmed its second-quarter earnings outlook and said it expects “slightly positive” sales despite a seasonally tough market.

The company — whose furniture brands include Lane, Thomasville and Broyhill — reiterated its plan for per-share earnings of 29 cents to 33 cents, including 3 cents in restructuring charges and 3 cents of increased interest expense.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial see profit of 36 cents per share, excluding one-time charges.

Furniture Brands characterized the quarter as a “seasonally challenging period for furniture retailing.” The company is slated to report second-quarter results July 26.

The company’s stock closed down 49 cents at $20.58 on the New York Stock Exchange, then added 54 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $21.12 in aftermarket activity. The shares have ranged between $16.07 and $25.34 over the past year.
