THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Furniture Brands International, parent company to Thomasville Furniture and several
other brands, will announce across-the-board job cuts today, according to a local television station here.
Fox News 8 (WGHP) said word was spreading among workers who had heard the news.
Marty Richmond, Furniture Brands manager of corporate communications, told Furniture/Today that an announcement is scheduled, but did not give details.
“I know there is a great deal of speculation about some work force reductions across the company and Furniture Brands expects to make an announcement around noon Central time (today),†said Richmond.
FBI Chairman and CEO Mickey Holliman said recently that the company expects to report a first-quarter sales decline of about 15%, larger than the 10% dip predicted earlier. He cited challenging retail conditions across the industry.
The company plans to report first-quarter results on May 2.
