Furniture company expands to Greene

Meadows Office Furniture Co. helps its clients find the

perfect furniture to fit both their spaces and their budgets by offering furnishings from more than 200 product lines.

The New York City-based company has customers nationwide, but earlier this year opened a new office on Main Street in Tannersville to service clients in the Hudson Valley area. That office joins others located in Rochester; Stamford, Conn.; Fair Lawn, N.J.; and Charlotte, N.C.

Amy Slutzky, who works in the Tannersville office, said her job is to help clients find the furniture and furnishings they need while staying within budget. She said there is a wide range of furnishings available at costs for those on budgets or those looking for high end accouterments.

“I could sell a desk that’s $300 or I could sell a desk that’s $10,000,” Slutzky said. “That’s the breadth of the product we sell.”

But selling furniture is not the only service Meadows, which was founded in 1967, provides. The company’s dealership services include consultation, furniture sourcing, rental, leasing, computer-aided design services and project management. Meadows also has installation services, warehouse and storage services and special services, such as relocation management, inventory controls, ergonomic evaluations and product demonstrations.

Melanie Hodgens, executive vice president of Meadows, said the company provides contract furniture and furnishings to businesses, government agencies, hospitality organizations, health care offices and entrepreneur organizations. She said Meadows is also a resource for the architectural and design community.

“We have a broad spectrum of what we do,” Hodgens said. She added, though, that 75 percent of Meadows’ business is in the corporate office environment. Hodgens also said Meadows is predominantly a Haworth dealer, which has a product line many architectural firms look for.

In Meadows’ larger offices the employees work in tandem with the design community to come up with solutions for their customers. In the smaller Tannersville office, Slutzky is able to bring her design background to her projects, Hodgens said.

Slutzky said she can also bring her own design expertise to a project. She said the designers provide the whole aesthetic interior plan and she comes up with a finish selection for the furniture that compliments it. Slutzky said if a designer gave her an idea of a style they were looking for, she would come to them with recommendations of things that would meet the aesthetic and budget requirements.

Hodgens said Meadows chose to open the Tannersville office because the company has clients in the Albany area. She said Tannersville was an attractive area where the company could have a nice showroom space. Hodgens added that while the local office is small, it is backed by the resources of the entire company. She said each of the employees works together and supports one another by providing their experience and expertise.

Slutzky, who is looking for an assistant to join her in the Tannersville office, said she has provided furniture for a medical office building and is beginning a relationship with a large financial institution in Albany. She said she is also working on a few local hospitality projects.

“Although my background is in corporate interiors, I’ll go anywhere,” Slutzky said, adding that she would love to branch out in the hospitality market.
