TIFFIN — Furniture maker Ameriwood Industries Inc. has notified Ohio officials that it is laying off 58 employees at a Tiffin plant as of yesterday.


The notice, filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act, didn’t state a reason for the cuts. Most of the workers were probationary employees who were with the firm less than 12 weeks.

Ameriwood, based in Wright City, Mo., produces ready-to-assemble furniture. It has about 420 employees in Tiffin, economic development officials said. A plant officials couldn’t be reached for comment.
